Performer, Choreographer, Arts Educator and Artistic Director of Dreamwalker Dance Company (DDC), Andrea Nann has a 23-year career as a professional dance artist living and working in Toronto. A graduate of York University’s Department of Fine Arts, Nann was a full-time member of the Danny Grossman Dance Company for fifteen years.
Nann’s artistic vision is to create, perform and share work reflecting an expressive, and intelligent world. She is concerned with issues of humanity and by the choices that people make in response or reaction to the events around them.
Nann has received three Dora Mavor Moore Award nominations for Outstanding Performance and one DMMA nomination (shared with Brendan Wyatt) for Outstanding Choreography. Nann has created over 45 original roles for choreographers and directors from across Canada and has cultivated a unique movement aesthetic that reflects her exposure to a vast range of movement styles, artistic approaches, techniques and art forms. In addition to her own projects Nann is currently dancing with Peggy Baker Dance Projects (Toronto), Co. Erasga (Vancouver) and Sarah Chase Dance Projects (BC).
Nann is a mentor and creative consultant for a number of emerging and established Canadian artists. She also initiates and facilitates community arts events and workshops designed to engage and capture the public’s interest in art and expressivity through the experience of sharing, connecting and creating. Nann produces The Whole Shebang, an annual festival of workshops and performance events celebrating artistic diversity.
Nann is currently a Resident Artist at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts (2009/2010/2011) and was Artist in Residence at the Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre in 2008 & 2009.
Nann is also a certified GYROKINESIS® instructor.
